About the Foundation

What is the AIST Foundation?

AIST Foundation is a Pennsylvania-based 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation organized for charitable, education and scientific purposes that seeks to attract technology-oriented professionals to the steel industry by educating the public about the high-tech, diverse and rewarding nature of careers in modern steelmaking.  Innovative ideas ultimately come from the new generation of students.  Accordingly, the Foundation awards college scholarships and program grants to provide these students a helping hand.

Who Owns the AIST Foundation?

Although there are no actual owners of the Foundation, in many ways, the Foundation “belongs” to the steel community.  The Foundation works closely with Association for Iron and Steel Technology (“AIST”), an international professional and technical association of more than 14,000 professional and student members.

Future Programs

As our industry evolves, the AIST Foundation will strive to develop new and innovative programs to support the future of the iron and steel industry.

How is the Foundation funded?

All Foundation programs rely entirely on individual and corporate Annual Fund gifts, association support and financial revenue from its endowment.

Who manages the Foundation?

The activities, properties and affairs are managed by a Board of Trustees consisting of 12 members of AIST, appointed by the AIST Board of Directors. In addition, the Treasurer, Secretary and the Executive Director of AIST shall serve as ex officio, nonvoting members.
