AIST Foundation Scholarships
The AIST Foundation will be awarding
11 Foundation Scholarships, up to 10 FeMET Scholarships,
up to 10 StEEL Scholarships, and member
chapter scholarships for the 2013–2014 school year.
Applications for 2013-2014 will be accepted 3 Dec 2012 through 8 Mar 2013

AIST Ronald E. Lincoln Memorial Scholarship - (Application deadline is 8 Mar) - Back to top
- two (2) US$3,000 one-year scholarships
will be awarded for the 2013—2014 school year.
Administered by the AIST Foundation, this scholarship
was established by Chaparral Steel as a tribute to Ronald
Lincoln and is awarded to individuals who best exemplify
the qualities of leadership and innovation for which Mr.
Lincoln was so well known throughout his career. Scholarships will be granted to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited North American college or university, with a genuine demonstrated interest in a career in the iron and steel industry. Qualifying majors are, metallurgy, materials science, chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, environmental, and computer engineering. University students in their freshman, sophomore and junior years may apply.

(3) US$3,000 one-year scholarships will be awarded for
the 2013—2014 school year.
Administered by the AIST Foundation, this scholarship
was established by Korf Lurgi Steeltec, Inc. to honor
the late Willy Korf, Founder of the Korf Group and
a well-known promoter/developer of innovative technology.
Scholarships will be granted to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited North American college or university, with a genuine demonstrated interest in a career in the iron and steel industry. Qualifying majors are, metallurgy, materials science, chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, environmental, and computer engineering. University students in their freshman, sophomore and junior years may apply.
AIST Benjamin F. Fairless Scholarship (AIME) - (Application deadline is 8 Mar) - Back to top
- Up to US$6,000 distributed in one-year scholarships to the selected applicant(s) will be awarded for the 2013—2014 school
year.
This scholarship is administered by the AIST Foundation
on behalf of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical
and Petroleum Engineers (AIME). The Fairless Award was
established in 1954 by a grant from U.S. Steel Corp. in
memory of its longtime Chairman of the Board. Scholarships will be granted to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university, with a genuine demonstrated interest in a career in the iron and steel industry. Qualifying majors are, metallurgy, materials science, chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, and computer engineering. University freshman, sophomores and juniors may apply.

William E. Schwabe Memorial Scholarship - (Application deadline is 8 Mar) - Back to top
- one (1) US$3,000 one-year scholarship
will be awarded for the 2013—2014 school year.
Administered by the AIST Foundation, this scholarship
was established in 2005 by the Steel Manufacturers Association
(SMA) to commemorate the life and industry service of
Mr. Schwabe, a pioneer in the application of electrical
engineering technology to the advancement and refinement
of electric arc furnace steelmaking. Scholarships will be granted to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university, with a genuine demonstrated interest in a career in the iron and steel industry. Qualifying majors are, metallurgy, materials science, chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, environmental, and computer engineering. University students in their freshman, sophomore and junior years may apply.
AIST Smith Graduate Scholarship (AIME) - (Application deadline is 8 Mar) - Back to top
- Up to US$6,000 one-year scholarship will be awarded for the 2013—2014 school year
Administered by the AIST Foundation, this scholarship was established by the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) in 1967 to honor Henry DeWitt Smith’s contributions to the mining industry. This scholarship assists worthy students in the pursuit of their graduate education in engineering in the United States or Canada. Qualifying majors are, metallurgy, materials science, chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, environmental, and computer engineering. University students in their senior years may apply.
AIST David H. Samson Canadian Scholarship - (Application deadline is 8 Mar) - Back to top
- one (1) US$3,000 one-year fixed scholarship will be awarded for 2013—2014 school year
Administered by the AIST Foundation and selected by the AIST Northern Member Chapter, this scholarship was established to honor David H. Samson, past Vice President Engineering at Dofasco and past President of the AISE . Scholarships will be granted to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university in Canada, with a genuine demonstrated interest in a career in the iron and steel industry. Qualifying majors are, metallurgy, materials science, chemical, electrical, mechanical, industrial, environmental, and computer engineering. University students in their freshmen, sophomore, and junior years may apply.
Recipients
of the above AIST Foundation Scholarship will receive a complimentary
student membership to the Material
Advantage Student program, for each year they receive
a scholarship.
